These are probably the people you’ll share your final foray into education with, your final assault in the world of essays, revision and homework. The battle of friendship has been fought, won and lost in that mighty domain – within student homes!

Whether you’re looking for student accommodation in Nottingham, Liverpool, Leeds, London, wherever, there are a few potential housemate qualities you need to get your Columbo skills out to identify.

Communication – As with any relationship, you MUST feel comfortable communicating grievances and issues with each other in your student homes. Explosive arguments borne from bottled-up emotions leave a nasty atmosphere behind

Trust – Feeling like you can’t trust your housemate around your possessions is something you definitely want to avoid! Also think about the student accommodation itself – can you trust them not to tear up the place with parties or vandalism

Co-operation and Tolerance – You don’t want a housemate who flies off the handle every time their feathers are ruffled by you not washing a teaspoon. Compromise and patience are essential qualities if you’re going to share a living space

Friendship – Compatibility with regard to smoking, sleeping, noise etc. habits is not the same as “friendship”. A compatible person to share your student home in Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool or anywhere else with is preferable to a close but incompatible friend

Remember, you too have to embody all of the above!
