Whatever you do when you are looking for student accommodation, don’t jump at the first house you view or you may find yourself living a student property which is totally unsuitable. We know this from bitter experience from our times as students.
Once one of our staff left things until the last moment, and it was just a week before he was due to start his course that he began looking for accommodation for students. He was doing a course at Lancaster, but the same rules will apply if you are looking for accommodation for students in Newcastle or student homes in London. The first rule is go with your gut instinct about the student property you are viewing.
He feels he should have done this, but even the sight of a set of drums and guitar amps didn’t put him off agreeing to move into what was going to be the first of many houses for students he lived in. On his first night, he was woken at around 2am by the sound of the other housemates having an impromptu jam session. As he was the last person to move into the student property, he felt unable to complain, but after a week of listening to Stairway To Heaven, he’d had enough and moved out.
Eventually he found the perfect student property, with no sign of a drum kit or guitars and he stayed there happily for a year. So don’t make the same mistake that he did. Prepare, and be sure that the student accommodation is the right one for you.
